Our story

Umukamo Imyenda is a Kigali clothing workshop that makes uniforms and simple everyday garments for local organizations. It took the Paid in 15 pledge after noticing that late payments to independent button makers and tailors made busy seasons harder for everyone. The team introduced a shared invoice log, assigned one person to check it each Monday and Thursday, and set aside cash for supplier bills before taking on optional purchases. The pledge has changed how the workshop discusses deadlines: each supplier receives a written payment date when an order is confirmed, rather than a vague promise to pay soon. In the first three months, 22 of 23 small-supplier invoices were settled within 15 days; the remaining invoice was resolved on day 17 after a bank processing delay. The workshop says the clearer routine helped two partner tailors accept repeat work without needing to borrow for materials.
