To Mikro Perivóli is a family-run shop selling herbal teas, preserves, and gift boxes. The owners signed the Buy Small pledge because they wanted their seasonal purchasing to support independent makers as well as the shop’s own neighborhood. They started reviewing supplier spending each month and identifying opportunities to source labels, gift packaging, and shelf displays from small businesses. The shop keeps its existing food-safety and reliability checks, but now asks independent suppliers to quote when a suitable need arises. After two quarters, 22 percent of supplier dollars went to independent businesses, compared with 16 percent before the review. One new local label supplier also helped the shop shorten its reorder lead time by four days. The owners say the concrete spending target made the pledge practical: rather than relying on good intentions, they can see whether their choices are changing and adjust the next quarter’s purchasing plan.
