Taller La Veta Vecina is a Medellín repair shop restoring chairs, tables, and cabinets for homes and cafés. It took the Buy Small pledge to make its purchasing choices more intentional and to keep more of its supplier spending with independent neighborhood businesses. The shop mapped its regular purchases, including timber, upholstery, finishing supplies, and printed tags, then identified local alternatives where quality and delivery were dependable. It now aims to direct one in every five supplier pesos to independent businesses. In its first six months, 22 percent of its documented supplier spend went to small local vendors, including a family-run upholstery supplier and a nearby sawmill. The owner says this has brought useful conversations about materials and repair methods, not simply a new line in the accounts. The shop still compares availability and suitability before buying, but the pledge gives local suppliers a fair chance to be considered. It also helps customers understand the community relationships behind a repaired piece of furniture.
