Presse du Quai is a Halifax print studio making short-run posters, menus, and event materials for local organizations. It took the Buy Small pledge after realizing that its purchasing habits did not always reflect the independent businesses it hoped to serve. The studio mapped its regular spending and found that paper, finishing, and courier choices were often made through the fastest online account rather than a considered local search. It now requests quotes from independent suppliers when schedules allow and groups orders to reduce delivery costs. The pledge is not a blanket rule: the studio still uses a larger supplier when a deadline or specialty stock requires it, and it tells customers when that affects a quote. In the first two quarters, 23% of supplier dollars went to independent businesses, compared with 16% before. Three small local vendors became recurring suppliers. The owners say the change has expanded their professional network without compromising deadlines or print quality.
