Our story

Ponto de Barro is a small ceramics workshop in Curitiba, making tableware and planters in short batches. Owner Ana Luísa Ferreira joined the Buy Small pledge because she wanted the workshop’s purchasing choices to strengthen the independent businesses around it, not simply chase the lowest bulk price. The team now tracks supplier spending and aims to direct at least one in every five supplier reais to independent local businesses. It has started sourcing clay tools from a neighborhood maker, packaging from a family-run paper shop, and refreshments for workshop events from a nearby bakery. These purchases have also made it easier to discuss shared delivery days and small custom runs. In the first six months, 22 percent of supplier spending went to independent businesses, up from 14 percent. Ana says the target is useful because it turns a broad value into a number the team can review. She signed to make local purchasing a deliberate part of growth.
