North Quay Ferments is a Leeds producer of small-batch sauces and fermented vegetables, selling to grocers and restaurants. Managing director Oliver Bennett signed the No Bill at the Door pledge after a few trade customers were surprised by import-related charges on specialty jars and ingredients. The business wanted buyers to know the full landed cost before committing, rather than discover duties or handling costs when goods were ready to be paid for. Its order confirmation now separates product price, freight, and any known duties, and staff explain when a charge is still an estimate. Where the final landed total differs, customers are told before payment and can approve or cancel the affected line. Across 14 recent cross-border orders, all 14 customers received the applicable charges before paying; two received revised estimates, both accepted in writing. Oliver says the change has made purchasing conversations more useful because buyers can compare the complete cost with their own margins and avoid an unpleasant surprise at delivery.
