Miel y Marea is a Newcastle business assembling gift boxes with honey, tea, and pantry goods from small producers. It joined No Bill at the Door because some customers receiving imported packaging supplies had faced duties they had not expected when an order arrived. The business wanted to be equally clear when it sold to customers beyond Australia. It now checks destination-specific charges before confirming an international order and displays known duties and taxes before payment; when an amount cannot be established reliably, it tells the customer and pauses checkout rather than implying the total is final. During a five-month review, 38 international orders were placed with duties shown in advance, and none produced a complaint about an undisclosed border charge. The team also added a plain-language note that customs rules vary by destination. Miel y Marea says the pledge has added work at checkout, but it gives customers a more complete basis for deciding whether to buy.
