Our story

Matahari Anyam is a small homewares maker in Bandung, working with woven plant fibers and natural dyes. It took the Hold the Door pledge because its founder remembers how difficult it was to approach a first buyer without a reference or a clear picture of what a business would expect. Each quarter, Matahari Anyam will offer one first-time founder a practical introduction to selling: a short product review, a sample pricing worksheet, and one meeting with a potential retail contact, subject to that contact’s agreement. The first participant was a new maker of reusable food wraps, who received feedback on packaging and a chance to present samples to two local shops. One shop placed a trial order for 30 pieces. Founder Rina Kusumawardani says the pledge is not a promise of investment or guaranteed sales; it is a commitment to make a useful first door easier to find. Matahari Anyam has reserved one afternoon each quarter for the sessions and will track how many participants receive follow-up introductions.
