Kanto Kapehan is a Quezon City café and bakery known for weekday breakfasts and locally roasted coffee. Founder Luis Mercado chose the No Surprise Fees pledge after customers asked why the total on delivery orders sometimes differed from the menu price once packaging and service charges appeared. The café reviewed every checkout screen, printed menu, and online listing, then moved any unavoidable charge into the displayed price before customers placed an order. It also added a simple receipt note explaining taxes and made packaging optional for dine-in takeaway orders. Staff found that clear pricing reduced awkward conversations at the counter and gave them more time to help guests choose. During the first eight weeks after the change, the café received 23 fewer price-related complaints than in the previous eight-week period, while online order completion rose by 7 percent. Luis says the pledge helped the business treat clarity as part of hospitality, rather than as fine print customers had to discover for themselves.
