Our story

Imbiza Yasekhaya is a Durban homeware importer selling kitchen textiles and serving pieces to independent shops. Managing director Thandi Mokoena took the No Bill at the Door pledge after several shop owners said they could not tell the full landed cost of imported stock until a courier requested payment for duties and related charges. The business now provides an estimate of applicable import costs before customers pay, states what is included, and flags when a final customs assessment could differ. Its quotations also name the person customers can contact with questions before dispatch. In a three-month trial, all 28 eligible orders received a landed-cost estimate before payment, and 25 were within 5 percent of the final assessed charges. The remaining three were explained with updated documentation before delivery. Thandi says the pledge cannot control customs decisions, but it can make uncertainty visible early enough for a retailer to choose whether and when to order. That has made stock planning less stressful for the small shops the importer serves.
