Cafenea Fir de Sare is an independent coffee shop and small roastery in Cluj-Napoca. Owner Andreea Popescu joined the No Surprise Fees pledge after visitors told staff that the displayed takeaway price did not always make clear whether an optional cup charge applied. The team rewrote its counter menus and online ordering screen so every required charge appears before a customer confirms an order. Optional extras are listed separately and remain opt-in. Staff also received a short guide for explaining the final total without making customers feel rushed. After eight weeks, the shop recorded 31 fewer checkout corrections than in the previous eight-week period, and its customer feedback card mentioned clear pricing 19 times. Popescu says the change was inexpensive but required careful checking across printed menus, delivery listings, and the point-of-sale system. The café now appoints one person to review all price displays whenever a recipe, supplier cost, or ordering channel changes.
