Blue Mahoe Workshop is a Montego Bay woodcraft business producing serving boards and small furniture from responsibly sourced timber. Founder Omar Blake signed Hold the Door to offer one first-time founder practical support each quarter, after remembering how difficult it was to find candid guidance when he started. The workshop’s first participant was developing a small line of hand-finished stools and needed help turning a rough idea into a workable first production plan. Omar reviewed a materials list, discussed how to price labour, and introduced the founder to two local suppliers willing to discuss small quantities. The founder completed a trial batch of six stools and used the cost worksheet to set a price before taking orders. Omar’s help is voluntary and limited to advice; the new business retains control of its design and decisions. The pledge has encouraged Blue Mahoe to make mentorship a scheduled part of its calendar rather than something squeezed in only when time permits. Omar says one honest conversation and a useful contact can make a first step feel achievable.
