Our story

Marmara Verde Studio is a ceramics workshop in Bologna, making small-batch tableware for restaurants and home cooks. It took the Buy Small pledge after noticing that its purchasing habits favored large catalogues, even when a nearby independent maker could meet the same need. The studio set a practical target: direct at least one in every five supplier euros to independent businesses. It began by sourcing clay tools, printed care cards, and gift-box inserts from small local firms, while keeping quality and safety requirements unchanged. In its first six months, 23 percent of its supplier spending went to independent businesses, up from 12 percent. The new relationships also shortened a packaging reorder from three weeks to eight days. Founder Giulia Ferri says the pledge encouraged the studio to ask who made the things behind its own products. It now reviews supplier spending each quarter and shares the results with its two employees.
